Unlike receive only AIS devices which do not transmit vessel information to surrounding traffic, the Nauticast-B system allows you to virtually participate in neighboring vessels maneuvering activities for collision avoidance. A "MMSI Number" is a Maritime Mobile Service Identity Number. If a vessel is required to have an FCC / VHF License, the MMSI number is assigned with the FCC / VHF License. If an FCC / VHF License is not required, the MMSI number is the same number that is issued for used with the newer DSC, Digital Selective Calling, integrated VHF radios.
